Sumi-e, "black ink painting"  is a way  of painting the rhythms and moods of  Nature. It's fascinating - watching what happens on the paper: Xuan, Mulberry or Unryu are a few of my favorites.

Each responds to the ink differently-- it's a balance of serendipity and brush skill.  I may add  "gems" of color with oil or acrylic, a distinctive
finish  for my paintings.

My paintings are hand rubbed with cold wax varnish so I can frame them without glass. Floater frames are my favorite as they give a  contemporary finish to  my work.

I stand at my table while I apply Indian Ink on Xuan, Mulberry or Unryu paper. Once it has dried I bond the painting to gator board or cradle board. Cold wax medium is hand rubbed onto the painting's surface, this protects  it. Giving a beautiful matte finish too.
I  use floater frames, without glass, for a contemporary presentation. The beauty of the Indian Ink and colors can be "touched with your eyes" and enjoyed for many generations.
